Today, exactly a month back, the day before possibly the biggest day in my life , the day I would be marrying the woman of my dreams.
Every man who has ever asked his woman to take his hand in marriage would know how big this is. You are making a promise to be by her side through thick and thin, for better and for worse and yes… until death do us part.
You may think, “oh what a sob story” , this is a bearded man’s lifestyle store, why write-up about wedding preparations and love and all that?” well…. that’s because I did what I never thought I would do for anyone, never mind the lady of my dreams. I CUT MY ENTIRE BEARD OFF!!
It was a difficult and painful task. I was used to my man mane for years and never wanted to part, believe me, I pride my mane ‘BIG TIME’. The beard is a part of me as much as I am of the beard. Now you wonder, why on earth would a beardsman cut off his man mane??? Well, for my woman, yip, for my lady. How does that saying go “A man that cuts his beard for a woman deserves neither”? that’s how I felt but see several years back I made a promise to her, a promise that when we marry one day that I will cut my beard off and put my pride in my pocket so that she can see my beardless face for the very last time.
I am a man of my word and thus stuck to this promise no matter how difficult it was to part with what I considered to be a “Mighty Mane” . See there are times one needs to make sacrifices for the more important things in life, those who matter, and my newly wife is one of them.
A beard grows back (unfortunately not overnight) and for me the process is a fulfilling experience that has many joys… (only a bearded man would understand this fulfilment of coarse) It was somewhat odd to not be able to clear my soaked moustache after taking a big gulp of an ice cold pint of beer or to try stroke my beard occasionally when I pondered. As a matter of fact I looked ridiculous trying to grab what’s not there anymore.
Now that my beard has been growing back I have loved every moment as I forgot what the beard growth stages were like while gaining good length. Frankly I’m loving it. My skin is nourished easier with some good beard oil and I forgot how damn good the boar hair beard brush feels brushing against my skin while perfectly distributing the oil through my full short beard…its EXHILARATING to say the least!!!
So there you go, trim down every now and again or change your shape, change is good, it may feel odd, you may have moments of disappointment, you will have times you enjoy it while its short and love it as it fills up and gains length.
We are Beardsmen, its our lifestyle.
